MAHI RAKAU

The purpose of Mahi Rakau (using wooden sticks) is to teach the practices for self-healing so that you can work your own body. Mahi Rakau is great for self understanding and self care which has benefits long after the session ends.

ABOUT CARLOS

My partner Carlos started work as an apprentice wood carver at 16.  His career ended up taking a different path and for the next 35 years he worked as a builder and landscaper.

In 2023, I booked a course for him with one of the UK's leading traditional wood carvers Sarah Goss at the Kings Foundation, Highgrove House which re-ignited his dream and passion for heritage crafts. Having built our Home Studio, Carlos then started to experiment and put into practice some of the skills he had learned.

2 months in New Zealand in 2024 really became a catalyst for both of us to channel our focus into what we love. Our training with Atarangi continues and our work has changed. We have set up a not for profit organisation, The Wellness Collective, alongside Joe and Danielle. Together we run clinics in our Community, one day Retreats for busy parents and have extended our work into corporate. Carlos has been busy carving the tools which are essential for Maori self healing.

RAKAU WORKSHOPS

We teach Maori self healing practices you can do on a daily or weekly basis to take care of both mind and body.

In Mahi Rakau workshops we use wooden dowels to work pressure points in the feet. Much like the belief system behind Reflexology, specific points are worked which directly correlate to specific parts of the body.  So we work the feet to both clear the body of any aches, pains and stress and to deepen our awareness, presence and connection to what our body really needs.

For corporate clients, I am offering both Mahi Rakau workshops and Romi Romi sessions for wellbeing days in house.

Rakau hand carved by Carlos will be provided for all workshops and are available for purchase should delegates wish to take them home.
